Friday Fun Facts

Hello sweet summer time!! (Even though most of you have been in summer mode for a few weeks already. You know, just summer solstice and whatnot.) Tis the season for sundresses, beach hair, midday naps, and dinners on the patio. At least, that’s what I envision summer to be. Yet somehow with the coming of fall I always look back and wonder what happened to summer why I didn’t wear more brightly colored nail polish or eat more popsicles… Anyway. Summer has officially arrived, so here’s to making it the best summer ever! And some fun facts to go with it :)

1. Green grapes are tastier than red grapes. They just are.

2. There is no such thing as too many pairs of sandals during the summer! Fancy tie up ones, a casual pair of flip flops, cute wedges… They go with everything!

3. Forgetting to sunscreen your part leads to very painful hair maintenance the next few days.

4. Asking a pregnant woman “Are you sure you’re not having twins?” is not a compliment. (Apparently I look large for being 22.5 weeks…)

5. Slip ‘N Slides aren’t just for kids. Neither are Trix.

6. PB&J sandwiches are best loaded with peanut butter, extra jelly, and sans crust.

7. Life is more fulfilling when you invest in people, not things. (Woah, that one was kind of deep.)

8. Beds aren’t just meant for nighttime, they’re also very much meant for daytime naps. So are lawn chairs.

9. When in doubt, a pair of aviators can make any outfit look summery!

Happy First Day of Summer :)

Featured: Sam + Mark on Peter Loves Jane

From the moment we met at the coffee shop on that chilly winter morning to talk about their big day, I knew I liked Sam and Mark! Mark has a quiet confidence about him, and Sam’s sweet and bubbly personality brings a smile to everyone’s face. Including Mark’s ;) And their wedding was not a disappointment! It was such a joyful and beautiful celebration. I LOVED being a part of it. So when the kind and talented blogger Nikkol of Peter Loves Jane got in touch with me about featuring it, I was thrilled! You can view the feature HERE.

Thank you Nikkol for a beautiful feature of this awesome couple! And thank you Sam and Mark, for allowing me to capture your wonderful wedding :)

The Day I Loved You the Least

Three years ago I thought I loved you. I mean, I did love you, don’t get me wrong. On June 15, 2010 it was seven years worth of dating, head over heels, ready to spend the rest of my life with you kind of love. And boy was it strong.

But now… Now, it’s different. Now it’s excited to wake up to your face every morning, still give me butterflies, would do anything to make you smile kind of love. It’s take care of me when I’m sick, seen me at my absolute worst, still think I’m beautiful kind of love. It’s a scared-excited oh my gosh we just bought our first house, picking out paint colors, planning our family’s future together kind of love. It’s watching your eyes light up at my growing stomach, seeing you play with other kids, can’t wait for you to be Natalie’s father kind of love. It’s three years worth of teamwork, three years of supporting each other, three years of growing together kind of love.

I’d heard people say it before. Wishing a happy couple at their wedding that it would be the day they loved each other the least in their marriage. And I always thought it was kind of a weird thing to say at wedding…. But now I truly understand what they meant when they said it. Because even though I’ve loved you since high school, I can honestly say that with every single day that passes, I love you so. much. more.

I can honestly say that in these last three years of marriage, June 15, 2010 was the day I loved you the least.

Happy Anniversary Roo. Always and forever.

Jordanelle Reservoir Wedding: Elosia + Jason

Some might say they were just words on a piece of paper. A group of nouns and verbs and adjectives wrapped together like the knot in his tie. But to Jason, they were words that he had poured his heart and soul into creating, making sure they depicted exactly the right picture of love he has for his bride. And as he stood there, the sun streaming down from the blue sky above, he couldn’t hold back the tears as he shared his vows with the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen.

In truth, they really were just words on a few notecards. A group of nouns and verbs and adjectives strung together like the beads on her necklace. But to Elosia, these words had been very carefully and intentionally written, words meticulously drafted in order to truly share the deep love she has for her groom. And as she stood there, the wind blowing lightly through her veil, she smiled radiantly as she looked into the eyes of the most wonderful man she’d ever met.

A few simple words were spoken on a beautiful day in May. But to Elosia and Jason, those words changed everything.

Married: Elosia & Jason

To say these two had a joy filled day is a huge understatement!! Their wedding was relaxed and fun, full of family and laughter, and lots of kids too :) And can I just take a second to brag about how awesome they are? Because they MOVED their entire ceremony set up the day of the wedding so that it would be in better light. Yeah, love these guys!!! Elosia and Jason, it was such an honor and privilege to document your awesome wedding!! Thank you for making me feel like family and making your pictures a priority. It was so wonderful celebrating with you two. May God continue to bless your beautiful lives together! Xo.

Great job Carissa. What a cool place to get married too.

No Sense Crying Over Spilled Milk

Sun shining through the window. Birds chirping outside. A warm cup of coffee. Fuzzy slippers. A daily devotional or quiet reflection time. There are many great ways to start the morning. And the way you start your morning kind of sets the tone the entire day. At least, I think it does. So imagine my dismay the other morning when I started my routine and poured a big bowl of cereal… then somehow (I still don’t know exactly how it happened), managed to spill it. The entire bowl. Without taking one bite first. And ALL OVER FRISKY I might add.

Yeah. It was like my own personal start to a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Here I am feeling rather chipper for the morning, ready to get started on my day, and there Frisky is, still sleeping soundly in his little bed next to my night stand, when the bowl somehow tips ever so slightly and the entire contents of it goes flying. Frisky yipes and jumps out of his bed, I’m sitting there stunned with a grumbling stomach, and Akiva and Zuka start having a hay day eating the all cereal off the ground and Frisky’s back. That’s right, there were pieces of cereal stuck to the fur on his back. It was ugly folks. Real ugly.

Fortunately, the rest of the day wasn’t SO bad. Jake came to my rescue and helped me clean the colossal mess of my breakfast, Akiva and Zuka were very pleased with their snack, and Frisky forgave me after I finished picking all the pieces out of his fur. (Although I still have to give him a bath, he might not like me so much during that.) We didn’t even have lima beans for dinner. Even though I did spill several more times that day (can I blame it on pregnancy brain??), and not everything went according to plan, there’s always the next day, right?

Or I can just look to my dogs for inspiration. No sense in crying over a bowl of spilled milk cereal.. especially when you get to eat it. Even if it’s off the floor ;)
