Heber Newborn Session: Baby Micah

David and Susan had been trying to adopt for many years. But after long and painful periods of waiting as well as some difficult life circumstances, their resolve had subsided, and they accepted the fact that raising a child most likely wouldn’t be a part of their future. As Susan put it, God would basically have to drop a baby on their doorstep if it was meant to be… And that’s exactly what happened.

They found out about Micah just under a month before he was born. After a whirlwind of events and a few short weeks later, they entered the hospital with an empty car seat, and came out with a full one. It’s truly a miracle, and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving couple! They might not have known that Micah even existed until just before he was born, but it’s safe to say that precious boy is now their entire lives. And just as they are blessed to have little Micah, he is also blessed to have them as parents! If you ask me, life doesn’t get much more beautiful than that.

I need to add in a little personal note here. This is a very special session to me. David and Susan are some of the kindest and big-hearted people that I know! Susan threw me an incredible baby shower towards the beginning of September, simply because she was so happy for me and wanted to celebrate my baby girl. She worked so hard to make it exactly what I wanted, even though she would never have baby or get a shower of her own. Or so she thought ;) Little did we know that a month later she would be getting her baby boy!!!! (You better believe I did my best to help her have an incredible baby shower, too!) We have grown very close going through this awesome time together. And another cool side note, Micah and Natalie actually had the exact same due date! They ended up being born 8 days apart, but still pretty awesome none the less :) Please enjoy a few of my favorites from this sweet, sweet family’s newborn session!

I absolutely love this! Before I even read your blog post somehow I knew this was going to be one of those miracle stories! We were blessed with our little miracle two years ago. From one mother in waiting to another – Congrats to this beautiful family!

Anne Wild - December 24, 2013 - 11:22 am

We are so happy for Susan and David. He is beautiful and is so lucky to have you as parents. As one adopted mom to another, I know the blessings he gives back are more amazing than you can have ever imagined.

We found out about our little Gunnar a month before he was due as well. Nothing like a one-month pregnancy! But, the rush was worth it!

Love you guys!

Park City Engagements: Lauren + Alex

Alex and Lauren are both from Chicago. In fact, they even share the same cell phone area code. However, it wasn’t until they had both grown up and moved across the country to San Diego that they met. Through some mutual friends and that wonderful website called Facebook, they connected. Little did they know they had spent their childhoods so close to one other.

Lauren reached out to Alex simply with the intention of gaining a new friend, because he was also involved in two things that are close to her heart: music and homeless ministry. And she became interested when she found out he was from Chicago, too. Yet little did she know at that time she was reaching out to the man who would love her and stand by her for the rest of her life.

Soon after, Alex asked Lauren to celebrate New Year’s Eve with him while they were both in Chicago for the holidays. Still a bit unsure, she politely declined. But he was undeterred. And when he asked her to lunch after they were back in San Diego, she said yes. But little did he know that he had asked his best friend and future wife out that day.

Now these two are getting married, because Alex loves Lauren with his whole heart, and Lauren can’t imagine her life without Alex. So even though they might not have known it at the time… they sure know it now.

Engaged: Lauren & Alex

I literally could not be any happier for these two!!! You see, Alex is my cousin (as some of you might remember), and I love this guy a lot. But from the first time I met Lauren, I immediately loved her too! She has a heart as big as he does, and they are truly perfect together. I could go on and on about it, because these two are seriously wonderful people who are an amazing example of what love should look like. (And they also happen to be pretty good looking!) But I will cut myself short so you can enjoy their photos. They were my first shoot back after Natalie, and may I just say, it was a good one! From the gorgeous snow to their hilarious matching sweatshirts, I couldn’t have asked for a better shoot to get back in the groove. Alex and Lauren, love you both so much and I can’t wait for New Year’s Eve!!! XO

Officially Back

Natalie turned eight weeks old on Tuesday. Eight weeks. All I can think to myself is, fo’ real?!!? I seriously have no idea where the past eight weeks have gone. They have been filled with so many firsts, lots of laughter, some long nights, definitely more than a few tears, but mostly joy. Unspeakable joy. She is for sure the best thing that has ever happened to us! And taking two months off to be with her turned out to be necessary for me.

Still… I’ve missed this. Missed losing myself in music and editing my latest session. Missed connecting with couples and documenting love with my camera. And honestly, I’ve missed you all. Missed blogging and sharing my heart with you guys. So I’m excited to say I’M OFFICIALLY BACK!!! Partyyyy. I’ll be the first to admit this has taken me longer than I anticipated. In all honesty, I meant to be back to work a couple weeks ago. Disclaimer: it turns out I’m not quite as skilled at balancing work and being a mom as I thought I’d be. Ha. Which means, I might not be back to blogging three or four times a week just yet. But I promise I’m going to try my hardest to get back into the groove as quickly as possible!! So thank you for being patient with me, and thanks for sticking around while I figure this out. You guys are the best :)

But before I bring it back to our regularly scheduled posting (starting with an awesome engagement session tomorrow, be sure to check back for that!), I have to show off share a few of my favorite pictures of Natalie during these first eight weeks of her life. Obviously I’m totally biased, but I happen to think she’s pretty darn adorable ;)

She is beautiful! The picture with your mom made me cry. Just wait until she is five months. All the fun stuff starts!

Jacqui - December 12, 2013 - 1:17 pm

She is beautiful! Such a wonderful little family. Can’t wait to see how much she grows, and she will have a well documented childhood that she will get to enjoy looking back on one day when she is old enough. So happy for you and Jake

Heidi Kurkowski - December 12, 2013 - 1:20 pm

Cool – you made me cry AND have baby fever. Such a little gem :)

Katie - December 12, 2013 - 8:31 pm

She is absolutely adorable!!! And I must say, 27 hours of labor?!? Yikes.. God blessed me with two short labors since He knows my pain tolerance! Loving the pictures of your precious girl … keep them coming!

Celia - December 13, 2013 - 5:29 am

The picture with your mom made me cry, too! But I have to admit the one with Caleb started the tears!! Can’t wait to see her in person (hopefully in April!!). Love you all!

Celene - December 13, 2013 - 1:44 pm

These are beautiful, Carissa! I think she is a total gem and what a smile!! Definitely makes me want a little bundle too! But I should probably wait until I am married… ;)

Whitney - December 13, 2013 - 2:24 pm

Carissa these photos are all so beautiful! And little miss Natalie is gorgeous! So happy for you and Jake! Congrats Mama!

Natalie Aundrea

On October 15, 2013 my life changed forever. After almost 9 months of waiting, our little girl is finally here!! Natalie Aundrea was born at 8:34pm last Tuesday. It was the most painful, exciting, intense, and gratifying experience I’ve ever had, if words can even describe it. To say she is perfect would be an understatement. I am completely in love with her!! There are times when I can hardly believe that she is mine. That I get to kiss her sweet head every day. That I get to play with her little fingers and toes. That I get to read to her and snuggle her and rock her to sleep at night…

She’ll be a week old tomorrow, which also blows my mind. I can’t believe she’s already been with us for 6 days! Time is absolutely flying. So I’ll be taking the rest of this month and all of November off from shooting in order to soak up this precious time with her, and I’ll resume again mid December. Thanks for your understanding! In the meantime, I promise I’ll try not to post TOO many pictures of her ;) But here are  a couple I took on Friday, just 3 days old. And on that note, I’m going to go snuggle with her again!

Carrisa – she is so beautiful! Wish we were closer so I could help spoil her! Congratulations – enjoy your time off, it will pass too quickly. May God continue to bless your family. Love you!

Lauren - October 21, 2013 - 11:03 pm

That little nugget!!! Please DO post too many pictures of her. I’m already trying to convince Alex to move to Park City to be closer! That may be a stretch, but for real, we’re in love via pictures. Love you! Can’t wait to see you & that beautiful blessing of yours next month for Thanksgiving :)

Sara B - October 22, 2013 - 5:06 am

So glad you posted these!! She is so beautiful. How could you NOT take time off to be with her?! :) XxoxOXoXOXoxo

Homestead and Zermatt Resort Wedding: April + Jeremy

She had meticulously planned out every last detail, complete with a spreadsheet timeline, homemade chalkboard signs, and comfy, sparkly shoes to go with her gorgeous wedding dress. And now that the day was finally here, April sat cheerfully getting her hair done. She also couldn’t help but double check that her bridal party had something to eat and drink, or jump up to give another friend a hug, or make sure that everyone had what they needed. Because April is the type of person who cares so much about the people in her life that even on her big day, even as a bride, she wanted to make sure everyone around her was happy.

And Jeremy complements April perfectly. His quiet and kind disposition allows her bubbly personality to shine. When she is busy making sure everyone else is happy, he is there to make sure that she is happy. It’s what makes them so truly beautiful together. She’s the jelly to his peanut butter and he’s the macaroni to her cheese. Basically, these two couldn’t be any more utterly and completely meant for each other.

This? This is what family and friends came to celebrate on that lovely September day. This is what was cheered to, hugged to, toasted to, and definitely danced to as the sky faded into night. And this? This is the stuff weddings are made of. Because even though April and Jeremy did a gorgeous a job planning a stunning wedding full of personal touches, it was their joy and love that made the day so special. Their joy and love that made it one magnificent day to remember…

Married: April + Jeremy

I need to start by saying how much I absolutely adore these two!! They are seriously one of the most kind hearted couples I’ve been blessed to work with and call my friends. I was one of those people that April made sure had plenty of food and was taken care of during the day :) She even had gluten free cupcakes at the reception!! They also gave me SO much time for photos, it was basically a photographer’s dream wedding! April really did have a spreadsheet timeline to keep us on track, it was awesome. I had a very hard time narrowing down the photos for this post! But I will just say that it was truly an amazing day. And hopefully the photos will speak for themselves :) April and Jeremy, what can I say? You guys are so wonderful, and it was SUCH an honor to witness your love and document your wedding! May your lives always be filled with the joy and bliss you felt on this beautiful day :) Much love!!! XO

These pictures are absolutely amazing. Carissa, you are blessed as a photographer. As I was reading the story you wrote about April and Jeremy, there were tears streaming down my cheeks on my lunch break. I cannot express how you totally capture April and Jeremy’s love for each other. And you are right, April took care of everyone. Her fun expressions and Jeremy’s quietness make a perfect match. Thank you for all your hard work. I just want you to know how much our family appreciates you. God Bless, April’s mother, Faylene.
