Running with the Big Dogs

Ever since we got the pups, Frisky has had to put up with a lot. Because really, when you’re an old man and all you want to do is sleep, get pets on the head, and eat, dealing with two German Shepherd puppies is quite a handful. When they were smaller than him, he still reigned supreme because they were intimidated by him. But as soon as they realized they were bigger, well, now they just like to mess with him. And as they paw at him, tails wagging and yipping loudly, he nips at them and then looks back at me like Seriously?! I seriously have to put up with this?!

But I think he secretly loves it. I mean, yes, they annoy him at times, but I think he secretly loves being a pack dog. He loves running around outside together making mischief. And if anyone were ever to try breaking and entering, watch out. You’d have to deal with two big dogs AND a little one. Extra scary. He’s a tough dog now. He runs with the big dogs.

Just don’t ask him about it. He’d never admit it…

Music Monday

Every January the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake hosts an awesome bridal fair for all you lovely ladies out there who got engaged over the holidays (or anytime recently, for that matter), and this year it’s on the 14th from 11:00am-6:00pm. Yep, this Saturday! I’ll be there, and I would love to see you there!! There will be over 100 great local vendors, not to mention some food and entertainment, and I’ll be giving away a free engagement session. So, if you’re stopping in to check out the wedding planning madness, be sure to drop by and say hello! It would totally make my day :)

Another thing that makes my day? Snow Patrol. Particularly at the start of a crazy busy week. (Well, actually, I love them anytime. But it’s a crazy busy week. So adding in that tidbit seemed appropriate.) Enjoy one of my favorites!

And here is a little sneak peek of all I’ve been working on for my booth. It’s not quite done yet, but in my head it’s going to be really great. Let’s hope it turns out how I envision in my head ;)

Whether you have a crazy busy week or a mellow one ahead, happy Monday!

Happy Birthday to My Best Friend

Today was Jake’s birthday. If it were up to me, today would have gone much differently. But his birthday never seems to go as planned. I missed it completely for four years in a row when I was away for college. Last year, he was sick. This year, I’ve been stressfully busy and we had some prior engagements and things to do that couldn’t be avoided, including getting up sinfully early on a Saturday to get our local Sundance tickets, and Jake wandering around Michael’s with me looking for frames for the bridal fair I’ll be in next weekend. Plus, he had to go into work this afternoon. (I motion that work should be voluntary on your birthday.) In fact, all I’ve done to celebrate thus far is make him blueberry muffins for breakfast and get him the video game he’s been wanting. Not exactly a dream birthday.

If it were my birthday, I’d probably be pouting about the lack of festive streamers, funfetti cake, and random people jumping out yelling “surprise!” But Jake? He smiles genuinely and thanks me for the muffins. He gives me a kiss after opening his present. He tells me he’s glad he got to be with me while frame shopping. And he happily plays his video game with what little time left he has of the day before he has to go to work.

That right there? That is just one more reason to add to the hundreds of reasons why I love him. He appreciates every single thing I do for him, even when I feel like I haven’t nearly come close to doing enough. He shows me that it is enough.

Happy Birthday Jake!! Thank you for being my best friend and supporting me in every way you know how, even on your birthday. You’re seriously the best. And I promise I’ll get better at this whole celebrating thing… It might take me a while, but there is no one else I’d want to grow old and celebrate with. I love you more than words can express. Here’s to another year of your life. I can’t wait to see what you’ll do. Xoxo.

Park City Anytime: The Roths

Today I’d like to introduce you to the Roth family! I went to high school with Nicole, so when she contacted me about doing some family photos as a Christmas present for her parents, I was thrilled!! I mean, not only did I get to photograph her lovely family, I got to see her and spend a little time catching up, too. Double bonus :) Enjoy a few of my favorites from their session!

We started inside so that we could get a couple of shots with Nicole’s adorable Grandma.

She was such a sweet lady :)

Then we headed outside for some family shots in the evening light.

And of course we had to bring out their pretty pup Lexie!!

I’ll finish with this shot. We grabbed it just as the last of the light was fading over the mountains :)

Happy Wednesday!

Glass Half Full

I sat down yesterday to write out some goals for this year. (One of which is to be more timely with things, but clearly that isn’t getting off to a great start, considering I didn’t even write my goals out until after 2012 had started…) I pulled out my goals from last year, blinked a few times as I read, and put the notebook down in despair. I hadn’t even checked off half of them. I felt like I was a balloon that had just been deflated, the kind where the balloon is flying around the room sputtering as the air shoots out until it finally plops down on the ground, all the air gone. It didn’t feel so great.

In fact, it was exactly what I was worried about when I wrote those goals down. That I would fail at them. That I would, essentially, lose. At life or something. (Dramatic, I know.) I almost put the notebook away without writing down new goals.

Then I started to think about the passed year. Yes, I did a lot of things wrong. But there were also a lot of things I did right. Goals I did accomplish, both ones I wrote down, and ones I didn’t even know I had until I’d done them. Last year was a good year. To complain about the things I didn’t do would be an injustice to the things I did do. Basically, I had to decide between looking at the glass half empty or half full. Half full is a lot more fun, if you ask me.

So I wrote 2012 goals. And when the end of 2012 rolls around, I know I’ll be able to look back on the goals I checked off, add some new ones, and be proud of my accomplishments. After all, what’s life without a bit of improvise? It’d be boring if we always got exactly what we wanted ;)

Here’s to the goals you accomplished last year, the ones you’re making for this year, and the ones you don’t even know you have yet. Happy New Year, everyone!!
