Frozen Goodness

Ok. What I’m about to share with you today might just change your life. I know it changed mine.

You might be thinking, “Wow! What could be so wonderfully great that it has Carissa this excited?!” Well, if you guessed the recipe for Frozen Hot Chocolate, you would be correct.

That’s right folks, today I’m going to share with you a dessert drink recipe that’ll turn your world upside down. (If you haven’t already experienced the frozen goodness, that is.) You can thank me later. Or you can thank this website, because it’s where I found the recipe. Or you can thank my cousin Alyssa, because she came up with idea. Or you can thank Pinterest, because that’s where she saw the picture and the idea sparked. Etc., etc. Either way, you’re gonna want to thank someone. (Yes, I understand I’m talking this waaay up and hopefully it will live up to your expectations. I do tend to get overly excited about dessert…)

Alright, here’s how to enjoy the goodness that is Frozen Hot Chocolate. Ingredients you will need:

  • 3 oz. of chocolate
  • 2 tsp. of hot chocolate mix
  • 1 1/2 tbsp. of sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • 3 cups of ice

For toppings (optional) you’ll need:

  • whipped cream
  • chocolate shavings
  • candy canes

I know, I know. I forgot to put the whipped cream in the picture, but I had made a big mess during the process and afterwards I didn’t feel like retaking it. So use your imagination : )

I used Stephen’s Candycane Cocoa (my favorite) for the hot chocolate, and a bar of Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate for the chocolate. I got the giant bar, though, because I wanted extra chocolate to make chocolate shavings. (Who doesn’t want chocolate shavings?!) At first I had no idea how I was going to do that, and then a brilliant idea came to me: potato peeler! (Genius, I know.) Made perfect shavings.

To start, pour one cup of milk (put aside the other 1/2 cup for later) and the 3 cups of ice into the blender so it’s ready to go.

Next, break up the 3 oz. of chocolate into a pot on the stove on low heat, stirring constantly so it doesn’t burn. (The website where I got the recipe said to do this over a double boiler, but honestly, who has one of those laying around their house? (Or maybe everyone does, and I’m just not kitchen-saavy….) Anyways, the pot worked fine for me.) As the chocolate melts, slowly add the sugar and the hot chocolate mix, all the while stirring constantly. (Thanks to Jake for being my hand model.) When it is totally melted and stirred together, take it off heat and slowly add the remaining half cup of milk, still (you guessed it) stirring constantly. It will be a little chunky, but try to stir it fairly well.

Once those are all stirred together well, add the mixture to the blender. Blend together for about 30 seconds, stir the mixture up, and blend again. You might have to do this several times to make sure all the ice chunks get blended. In the end, it should have the consistency of a daiquiri.

When it’s all blended, pour into pretty cups, make a nice whipped cream tower, sprinkle on some shavings, add in a candy cane for kicks, and enjoy!

So there you have it!! The most delicious, chocolatey winter drink a girl could ask for.

Makes me want to be all hostess-y and throw a party, just so I can serve these drinks. Haha.

Hopefully it lives up to hype I’ve given it and you’ll all love it : ) Happy Wednesday!
