A Stomach Bug… Of Sorts

I’ve been really sick for almost a month and a half now. So sick that it’s kept me from blogging, editing, working in general. I’ve pretty much been stuck in bed 90% of the time. When people heard I was sick and asked what I had, I always gave a very vague answer. Usually something along the lines of a stomach bug. Which wasn’t exactly lying…

Yep, for those of you who haven’t caught on yet, I’m pregnant!! (It’s still kind of surreal for me to say that.) There’s a little bambino growing inside my belly. And I’ve had the worst morning sickness to prove it. While I don’t mean to throw myself a pity party, when I imagined being pregnant I was under the naive impression that morning sickness was just that, a bit of nausea in the morning then you’d be good to go. (I blame it on Hollywood, they never make it look bad in the movies.)

Not so. At least, not for me and this pregnancy. As the pharmacist so frankly put it when Jake went to pick up some medicine for me, “Morning sickness is the price women pay to have a child. And some, well, they have to pay a lot more than others.” Awesome.

That being said, I have a lot more to be grateful about than I do to complain! Jake and I were waiting until our first prenatal appointment before we announced our pregnancy, to make sure that things were progressing properly and that the baby seemed to be healthy. We just had that appointment last week, and I am so thrilled to say that everything looks great!! We got to see an ultrasound and the doctor was able to find the heartbeat immediately, and she said the spine looked good. In fact, the little peanut was so active and squirmy that our doctor had a hard time measuring him! (I say him because Jake and I both think it’s going to be a boy, but we won’t know for a while longer.) Good stuff.

So here is my official announcement. A little Uribe will be joining the world this year!

It’s funny, I’d dreamed for a while of the fun ways I’d write this blog post, all the cute and surprising things I’d do to announce it to friends and family. I’ll admit, this isn’t exactly how I had it planned out… But hey, this is real life. And we’re having a baby in October :)

Super excited for you!!! That’s awesome news. It’s amazing how you don’t really think morning sickness can be that bad until you experience it. More like morning-noon-and night sickness!! I was in bed for about 12 weeks and felt sick for almost 20! ICK! Praying you will feel better soon!! :) And, my bet it’s a girl :)

Excited we get to see you in May!

Take care of yourself and that little gummy bear! Talk soon :)
